Dan Cervone played a valued emissary role for ARP by being its official
representative at the ECP13 Conference in Athens. This is the annual meeting
of the European Association of Personality Psychology, which has a long and
distinguished history in personality science. Hope to see you at ECP14 in Tartu, Estonia next summer!
In reporting back to the ARP Board, Professor Cervone summarized
three major developments agreed to by the EAPP executive committee and its full
Member's Meeting.
International Newsletter
EAPP confirmed its desire to collaborate with ARP on the production of an
International Newsletter for the field of personality. Cervone noted that
"professional societies and informal networks of scientists on other continents
(South America, East Asia) recently have expressed interest in (such a)
newsletter." Brian Little will be coordinating this potentially exciting
multi-venture for ARP as well as trying to become proficient in languages like
English.
Memberships
At its meetings, EAPP formally endorsed the idea of discounted joint membership
with ARP. Details of this are still being worked out but essentially the idea
would be to increase membership in both societies by having joint membership
that would cost less than the combined separate dues payments of ARP + EAPP. The
ARP Executive Board (please see the Presidents Report) was highly receptive to
this idea and it is one of our ongoing projects.
Joint Representation
Cervone reports that "EAPP kindly extended to me joint-courtesy-registration"
and ARP, in turn, has approved extending that courtesy to an EAPP
representative to our meetings. (Again, see Jules Norem's report on the
Memphis meetings for futher details). Professor Cervone raised the issue of the necessity of timely selection of
representatives for these meetings and ended his report by congratulating the
EAPP on "another remarkably successful conference." And so say all of us.
Professor Cervone's attendance at these meetings as ARP's representative
required, at least implicitly, his providing clear evidence of his active
participation. Such is offered in the photo below. From left to right we see
Professor Boole De Raad, current President of EAPP, Frosso Motti-Stefandi,
President-Elect, and our intrepid ARP envoy, Dan Cervone, himself.
