Young Researchers' Corner

The graduate student/postdoc list-serve is now a google group. If you are not already a part of the list-serve, please join it by going to http://groups.google.com/group/ARPgrads-n-postdocs! Announcements are fairly infrequent, but we host occasional surveys (to obtain feedback for the executive committee) and discussions. Also, the list-serve is a great place for faculty to post job announcements!

From Jenn Lodi-Smith: It is time for me to pass the ARP rep hat. I am happy to introduce your new representatives Erik Noftle and Jenn Fayard. Please click on their pictures below to find out more information about each of them!

A Letter from Your Reps

Greetings from your ARP graduate/postdoc committee!

First, we would like to introduce this year’s graduate/postdoc committee. Thanks to Shannon Holleran, Jenn Lodi-Smith, Josh Jackson, Jon Adler, Tony Evans, and Kira McCabe for serving on this year’s committee.

Our overarching goal this year is to increase graduate and postdoc involvement in ARP through giving you more opportunities to network and present your work, as well as through addressing your needs to make ARP more valuable to you. At last year’s grad committee meeting, we overwhelmingly agreed that we would like to institute a grad/postdoc symposium, allowing three or four authors of exceptional poster submissions to give a talk at the conference instead. This would not only provide you another line on your vita, but would also serve as an award for your excellent work. The executive committee responded positively to this idea, but unfortunately it was not feasible to implement it into our conference in Albuquerque. One primary goal for this year is to get this symposium up and running for next year’s conference in Chicago. In addition to this project, we welcome any ideas or concerns you have for ARP or for the conference in particular, so please e-mail us with any suggestions. We will be having a full committee meeting sometime in the near future, so we will be sure to address these concerns at our meeting.

Thanks, and have a wonderful year!

Sincerely,

Jennifer Fayard
Graduate Representative

Erik Noftle
